HIGHLAND PARK, IL (July 11, 2009) - Las Vegas Blues Society (LVBS) Trustee and Official Blues Ambassador, "Z." Lipsky, presented a plaque to Sir Tom Jones on behalf of the LVBS prior to his concert at the Ravinia, making him its first mega-celebrity Honorary Member.
The inscription reads in part: "The Las Vegas Blues Society Board appreciates your many contributions to encourage a unique bond between many people of all countries and ethnic origins to hold true for the preservation and musical heritage which vibrates the breath of history and the unique rhythm of the "Blues…"
Sir Tom Jones was knighted "Officer of the British Empire" and is a noted music legend among artists around the world. The show was held to thousands of cheering fans with him receiving many standing ovations, and yes, the bras and panties were still being tossed on stage.
"Z." Lipsky, who nominated Jones for the award, recounts his appearance on Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues - Red, White & Blues (2003) PBS documentary. "As a Blues aficionado, I feel that Tom Jones’ renditions of the Blues projected a unique mastery of the heart and soul of this American genre."
The LVBS is a non-profit organization providing free jams to Blues lovers and hosting fundraisers and events to benefit veterans and musicians in need of services such as medical assistance.
